What are Stacking games?
Look up. Look way up.
There's something about perfectly placing an item on top of another that's inherently satisfying, especially when you can make them reach previously unseen heights. Perhaps it speaks to the perfectionist that lies within all of us. Well, maybe not all, but certainly enough that Stacking Games are big business and there's plenty of them here for you to enjoy.
Books Tower is perhaps the most straightforward and most relatable example. At some point, we've all had to make a pile of books. It's fine until it reaches a certain point. Then it becomes a wobbly mess that could topple at any moment. And yet, we persist, dreaming of that floor-to-ceiling stack. Here, you can do that without fearing the inevitable crash that may, or may not, knock a precious item off a mantle piece. Timing is crucial here. If you choose the wrong moment to place a book on the pile, it'll all go hopelessly wrong, and you'll have to start again.
Meanwhile, Cat Fun is arguably a reverse Stacking Game. Rather than trying to make a pile of cats, you're trying to make the feline tower smaller by getting rid of them. No, don't worry, this isn't some animal cruelty simulator. These are merely colourful silhouettes of cat heads. All you have to do is match colours together to clear the board, using power-ups along the way for more impressive clears.
Tetroid is a similar reverse stacking puzzler here on Addicting Games. Using the well-known Tetris pieces, you'll need to create straight, vertical or horizontal lines. When you do, it'll disappear, netting you some sweet, sweet points. There's always a choice of three pieces, bringing a slower-paced nature to Tetroid than its main inspiration and, arguably, a few more tactical decisions as well. Of course, that doesn't mean you won't find it stressful from time to time.
